Dr. Mitchell Sheinkop Appointed National Medical Director at QC Kinetix to Advance Regenerative Medicine Services

Dr. Mitchell Sheinkop, a distinguished surgeon, educator, and trailblazer in regenerative medicine, now serving as the national medical director of QC Kinetix, recalls a pivotal moment from his career.

He received a call about an 18-year-old man who had been in a car accident, which tragically claimed the lives of three other college-bound passengers. The young man was the sole survivor but faced the possibility of having his lower leg amputated unless Dr. Sheinkop could intervene.

“Initially, at the outside hospital, an amputation close to the hip had been recommended,” Dr. Sheinkop said. “The parents had known of me and requested a transfer to my care. At the time, limb salvage was in its infancy, and vascularized fibular bone graft for large segmental bone defects was experimental.”

Dr. Sheinkop was able to save the young man’s leg, preventing the need for amputation. Today, that same individual is preparing to retire after a distinguished 35-year career as a firefighter in Chicago, living without any physical limitations.

Throughout his distinguished 37-year career as an orthopedic surgeon, educator, and trailblazer in regenerative medicine, Sheinkop has collected many impactful stories similar to this one. He is acknowledged as a top authority in treating complex knee and hip conditions.

He is now leveraging his extensive experience and achievements as the newly appointed national medical director at QC Kinetix, a position he assumed in February 2024.

QC Kinetix specializes in regenerative medicine therapies that tap into the body’s innate ability to heal itself, offering enhanced functionality while reducing the need for surgical interventions for musculoskeletal pain.

“Joining QC Kinetix is the continuation of a journey for me, a third career where retirement is not in my vocabulary,” Sheinkop stated. “I’m excited to contribute to a field that offers a needle instead of a knife, helping patients through skeletal and muscular regenerative medicine.”

Dr. Sheinkop is eager to leverage his experience in this new role on the company’s leadership team. He firmly believes in the transformative potential of regenerative medicine to change lives for the better.

Dr. Sheinkop’s Journey and Family Influence

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Dr Mitchell Sheinkop is the child of immigrant parents who fled discrimination and poverty in Eastern Europe during the time between World War I and World War II. As first-generation Americans, he and his brother were greatly influenced by their parents, who played a crucial role in supporting his decision to embark on a career in medicine.

“They saw higher education as the best means of assimilation and medicine as the pinnacle of achievement,” he said. “If my parents hadn’t set sail when they did, things might not have worked out so well.”

Dr. Sheinkop’s educational background is comprehensive and covers many years. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, proceeded to train at Chicago Medical School, and completed his residency at Northwestern University. Additionally, he undertook fellowships in pediatric orthopedics and hand surgery.

In addition to his medical credentials, Dr. Sheinkop has a military background, having spent one year on active duty in the United States Air Force, followed by seven years in the Reserves. Serving as a first lieutenant and captain in the Medical Corps, he encountered a defining moment on his first day of internship at Chicago Cook County Hospital, which profoundly shaped his career path.

“We were assembled and advised to seek a Vietnam-era deferment via The Berry Plan,” he explained, “which allowed physicians to postpone obligatory military service until they had finished medical school and residency training.”

Dr. Sheinkop recognizes that many people have been instrumental in his path to success.

“Countless people from my high school, college, medical school, and residency played crucial roles in my development. While there are too many to name individually, each one has significantly influenced my growth and achievements,” he said, reminiscing about the inspirations from his formative years.

Dr. Sheinkop Brings Outstanding Expertise to QC Kinetix

Dr. Sheinkop attributes his long-lasting career and achievements to his steadfast work ethic. Over the years, he has served as a surgeon and visiting lecturer in various countries, conducting educational seminars across the globe, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland, Russia, Romania, and Austria. His academic achievements are impressive, having authored over 70 articles in prestigious publications and peer-reviewed journals, which have solidified his standing as a leading authority in orthopedics and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Sheinkop mentions that he has encountered three unique career experiences.

“First as a joint replacement surgeon serving as the head of one of the top five joint replacement programs in the country, and achieving that end by integrating patient care with clinical research and education,” he said.

“I retired as Professor Emeritus and began career number two in the emerging discipline of regenerative medicine. By introducing again the integration of patient care with clinical research, I was able to play a role in bringing Orthobiologics into the mainstream of skeletomuscular care. Now I am involved in career number three as medical director of QC Kinetix, where I hope to play a significant role in the evolution of an evidence-based initiative and thereby position QC as the leader in musculoskeletal non-surgical care.”

Dr. Sheinkop expressed that his involvement in these three careers, along with his capacity to take on leadership roles in each, brings him immense pride. In his new position at QC Kinetix, he intends to integrate physical therapy and weight management strategies into the patients’ current treatment plans. QC Kinetix focuses on non-surgical, drug-free therapies that promote the body’s natural healing and repair processes.

Personal Life

Dr. Sheinkop lives in Chicago with his wife, with whom he has shared 56 years of marriage. Together, they have three adult children and seven grandchildren, cherishing the moments spent with their family. They place a high value on their personal lives and work-life balance, carving out time for enjoyable activities that aid in stress relief.

“QC means Queen City. I am married to QW, Queen Wife, with whom I enjoy a balance of culture, including symphony and theater; regular recreational endeavors including fitness pursuits, cycling, gardening, skiing, and fly fishing,” he said. “Additionally, I minimize television and am an avid reader.”

Dr. Sheinkop and his wife are deeply committed to community service, actively supporting various initiatives at both national and international levels.

When asked about an entrepreneur or business leader who inspires him, Dr. Sheinkop readily mentioned Robert Wislow.

“Robert Wislow is a tireless, extremely successful Chicago Real Estate Developer responsible for many of Chicago’s major public spaces and cultural treasures,” the doctor shared. “At the same time, he serves on many local and national boards while continuing to give back to our community, combining his development achievements with the public good.”
